Glutathione

Glutathione (γ-L-Glutamyl-L-cysteinylglycine, GSH) is the most abundant endogenous antioxidant in human cells and a central regulator of cellular redox balance. It functions as a cofactor for antioxidant enzymes, a scavenger of reactive oxygen species (ROS), and a facilitator of xenobiotic detoxification.

Research has investigated glutathione for its roles in protecting cells from oxidative damage, supporting mitochondrial function, modulating immune responses, and facilitating detoxification via conjugation. Declining intracellular GSH levels are associated with aging and a broad range of disease states, making it an important target in longevity and metabolic research.
